{"id":31710,"date":"2021-04-21T16:53:32","date_gmt":"2021-04-21T20:53:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mjhs1.wpengine.com\/?page_id=31710"},"modified":"2025-01-27T19:23:02","modified_gmt":"2025-01-28T00:23:02","slug":"george_floyd","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.mjhs.org\/es\/centers-communications\/george_floyd\/","title":{"rendered":"The George Floyd Verdict and Associated Trauma"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Nothing can turn back the clock on the horrific murder of George Floyd on May 25<sup>th<\/sup>, but hopefully, yesterday\u2019s guilty verdicts will offer comfort to the Floyd family and serve as a meaningful first step toward societal change and police reform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the past year, many members of the MJHS family\u2026including our staff, patients, residents and members\u2026 have been profoundly impacted by George Floyd\u2019s murder, along with the additional acts of senseless violence witnessed against the Black, Asian and other communities of color. This trauma has only been compounded by relentless news coverage filled with footage of the devastating 9 minutes and 29 seconds and the trial that relived that painful day over and over.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dealing with these traumatic events affects everyone differently. And some members of our staff are truly suffering. That\u2019s why it\u2019s never been more critical for us to come together as an organization. We need to be there for each other and provide a listening ear for those we care for. If speaking with family, friends, and colleagues does not offer sufficient support, professional help is available. MJHS offers confidential counseling 24\/7 through the Employee Assistance Program (EAP). The MJHS EAP for union free employees is administered by Charles Nechtem Associates.
